Four-time Tommie All-America jumper Eyo Ekpo is one of 11 athletes voted to the CoSIDA Capital One All-District 6 Academic Team for 2012 men's track and field/cross country. 
Ekpo, a junior from Andover, Minn., has a 3.69 grade-point average in Business Entrepreneurship. He now goes onto the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Last March, Ekpo was the NCAA runner-up in the indoor national meet in the triple jump and also placed fourth in the high jump to help UST take fifth in the team race. He was hampered by injuries in the outdoor season. He had a career-best 6-10 3-4 high jump to qualify for outdoor nationals, where he cleared 6-8 and finished 11th.
A three-time MIAC meet field-event MVP, Ekpo has competd in five conference meets on his career and has eight firsts, four seconds and two thirds in jumps to lead St. Thomas to five team titles. He's just the second Tommie athlete to hit 50-feet in the triple jump as he ranks No. 2 behind Leonard Jones with an indoor career-best of 50-2.
Ekpo has also been a member of UST's Student Athlete Advisory Committee; and has volunteered as a tutor at a local elementary school, as a youth coach, with the Boys and Girls Club and with Feed My Starving Children.
