Berg, relays score for Women T&F at NCAAs

The Tommie women tied for 28th place Saturday evening at the NCAA Championships in Claremont, Calif. UST closed with eight points as it scored in three events.

Taylor Berg placed seventh in the 1,500 in 4:30.53; the 4x100 relay placed seventh in 47.41 with Mallory Burnham, Emily Van Heel, Christina Rozeske and Angela Tipp; and the 4x400 relay clocked 3:48.08 with Angela Tipp, Erika Tipp, Larissa Peyton and Van Heel. That quartet broke a school record in Thursday's prelims in 3:47.22. The previous record was 3:47.45 set in 2003 with Jill Ylonen, Teresa Smock, Molly Hupp and Heidi Vogel.

St. Thomas tied for 20th place on the men's side with 11 points.

Tommie senior Mike Hutton placed a close second in the 800 meters and scored eight team points for UST. Hutton clocked 1:49.78, just behind Wabash's Jake Waterman, who took first in 1:49.41. 

Senior Ben Sathre placed sixth in the 5,000 in 14:28.

Maxwell Dunne placed 18th in the decathlon (6,250).
